Position Description

All nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards, CNMC Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations. The Professional Model of Care requires registered professional nurses to be responsible and accountable for their own practice. CNMC supports the development of RN relationships within the community; specifically those relationships associated with the health and well being of the community at large. The Crisis Nurse is an independent practitioner who will function as an identified resource to staff in a service area. Provide comprehensive patient care to a variety of patients. Incorporate all members of the health care team in the planning and delivery of patient care. Deal successfully with more complex clinical problems. Demonstrate expanded knowledge base through participation in unit projects and activities.

Minimum Education

ASN (Required)

BSN (Preferred)

Minimum Work Experience

2 years Related clinical nursing experience in a comparable setting (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge

1 year Pediatrics experience (Preferred)

Will successfully complete the hospital and nursing orientation at CNMC.

Required Licenses And Certifications

Registered Nurse in District of Columbia (Required)

Professional Practice

  • Accountable to participate in the Division of Nursing’s Performance Improvement process (division or unit level).

Assessment and Planning

  • Able to perform assessments of patients immediate needs during times of changing patient status.
  • Able to plan the immediate care of patients during times of crisis.
  • Based on assessments, contribute to and develop individualized plan of care with patient and family.

Implement Plan of Care

  • Accountable to establish, implement, communicate, coordinate, and evaluate the interdisciplinary plan of care with outcomes.
  • Role model proficiency in nursing skills and procedures in all areas.
  • Coordinate immediate patient care needs and organizes so patients needs are met.
  • Role model proficiency and completeness of documentation.
  • Role model organizational and prioritization skills necessary to complete assignments within acceptable time frame.

Evaluate Plan of Care

  • Verify with patient/family the effects of care and make changes in plan as needed.
  • Analyze patient’s physical and emotional responses to care.

Patient/Family Knowledge for Plan of Care

  • Reinforce teaching with patient/family based on plan of care.
  • Ensure all interventions are communicated and plan is in place for any follow-up required.
  • Accountable to provide services in a manner that is sensitive to diversity

Leadership

  • Delegate to ancillary staff and display strong leadership in a team environment.
  • Support unit management decisions and promote a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in a constantly changing work environment.
  • Strive to continuously improve operations through quality improvement and work to sustain results.
  • Ensure accuracy of data, work and information.
  • Participate in performance improvement data collection, analysis, implementation and ongoing evaluation.

  • Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance
  • Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation
  • Stop in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation
  • Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication
